We recommend this book to accompany the Jetlinx MCC course since it describes the AFDS and FMS found on the B757/B767. Read in conjunction with the Jetlinx Flying Manual as pre-course study to gain as much as possible from the course.

Every airline pilot should have this book in their bookcase.  Ideally you should have it before interview for any company.  Emphasis is made of the differences between large transport and smaller propeller driven aircraft. You can almost guarantee a thorough read of this book will help pass the technical examination or interview for your first job.

Can you really remember why a jet aircraft needs swept wings or why Jet engines are more efficient at altitude?.... remember, the interviewer read the same book. YOU NEED THIS for the rest of your career.

Don't confuse this book with "Handling the Big Jets"  This is a condensed ATPL course for the layman... however you will find it a good reference to kickstart your  hazy memory of the ATPL syllabus.  In addition, the section on following a flight from A to B will give you an insight into operation as a Multi-pilot crew on a modern airliner.

This book has recently been updated to cover operation of the B777

A study into the Human Factors that cause accidents and just why pilots make mistakes

Synopsis- AMAZON
After landing safely back at the airport with a fire on board, no exit was opened for 23 minutes and 301 people inside perished. Investigations into the causes of aircraft accidents often focus on what happened and who did it - but very rarely on why, which is the question the author addresses in this book. He propounds that the cause should be sought deeper inside human beings who make simple human errors rather than simply "pilot error". David Beaty analyzes not only human error flying accidents, but also the latest predisposing errors made by management and government. This book was recommended in a House of Lords debate on aircraft safety.
